Double MX1 and MX2 Overall Wins for Raptor Titanium Sponsored Riders in Bulgaria

Glorious sunshine greeted motocross enthusiasts Sunday morning as the crowds gathered at the Gorna Rositza, Sevlievo circuit after washout conditions for the qualifying on Saturday.

MX2

After a complete domination by Jeff Herlings at Valkenswaard two weeks previously it was a dream start for Britain and Raptor Titanium's Tommy Searle on the Floride Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki machine in MX2 race 1 as he sprinted off with the holeshot and established a commanding lead early on in the race. The Brit wasn't to have it all his own way though as front-brake problems became apparent midway through the race, handing the initiative to his team-mate and fellow Raptor Titanium sponsored rider Joel Roelants who seized the lead and eventually the race win, his first of the season. Searle's main championship rival Jeff Herlings on the Factory KTM Red Bull KTM also took the opportunity and passed Searle later in the race to take second, with Searle hanging on with a sizeable lead over the next man, Herling's fellow KTM Red Bull team-mate Van Horebeek, to take third. The next man on Raptor Titanium footpegs was Rockstar Bud Racing Kawasaki's Dylan Ferrandis in 8th.

The start to race 2 was a similar story with Searle grabbing the holeshot and taking an early lead, however a good start for Herlings meant it was a tight race right to the last few corners as Herlings made repeated challenges for the lead throughout the race, but dogged determination and resilience from Searle and some mistakes from Herlings proved to be the difference in the second race as Searle got his first GP win of the season, and the overall GP victory for the weekend, edging out Herlings by just one point. Joel Roelents got a very hard-earned 4th place, dicing with former CLS Kawasaki man Max Anstie all race to grind out the overall 3rd for the day. It was a fantastic result for the Factory Husqvarna and Raptor Titanium sponsored rider Alessandro Lupino as he managed 6th place, taking 10th overall.

MX1

After a shaky start at Valkenswaard, Raptor Titaniun sponsored rider Christophe Pourcel of Floride Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki dominated MX1 race 1, leading every lap and showing why he is a former world champion, using his ultra-smooth technique to increase his lead further and further throughout the race to his eventual first race win of the season. Behind Pourcel was fellow Kawasaki and Raptor Titanium sponsored rider Gautier Paulin of the Factory Kawasaki Racing Team, dicing with the current world champion Antonio Cairoli of Factory KTM Red Bull and beating the Italian convincingly to take 2nd in race 1. Paulin's team-mate and fellow Kawasaki Racing Team and Raptor Titanium rider Xavier Boog had a good race too, getting 6th in the first race. Raptor Titanium riders Greg Aranda, Shaun Simpson and Kevin Strijbos got 10th, 11th and 12th place respectively.

Like MX2, it was a similar story in race 2 as Floride Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki started in the lead again, with Pourcel storming out early, however he didn't have it all his own way as KRT's Paulin had an incredibly quick race, using a combination of strength and speed to hold off Pourcel until the chequered flag, getting his first GP win (tying on first points with Pourcel) on the board this season and his second overall career GP victory after last year's wild card entry at Fermo, Italy. Cairoli managed to thwart a podium spot for his team-mate Ken De Dycker as he took third in race 2 and overall for the GP.

With an overall win and third overall in MX2 and 1 & 2 on the podium in MX1 for Raptor Titanium sponsored riders this weekend, with also an overall 6th for Xavier Boog, 9th for Shaun Simpson and 10th for Sebastian Pourcel it was a fantastic result for our sponsored teams and riders, and makes for a truly exciting championship in both classes as the championship moves onto Fermo next weekend.
