Perfect start for Raptor Titanium sponsored teams at Fat Cats, Doncaster as 2012 British MX Championship kicks off

It was stunningly beautiful weather that greeted motocross enthusiasts on Sunday morning as the clear skies and warm temperatures brought the fans out in droves for Round 1 of the 2012 British Motocross Championship at Fat Cats Motoparc, Doncaster.

MX2

There were few surprises as the first MX2 race got underway when the two Bike It Cosworth Yamaha and Raptor Titanium sponsored riders Arnaud Tonus and Zach Osborne sprinted into the lead, dicing throughout the race until the very end when Tonus used his effortless smooth style to edge out Osborne, who looked equally as impressive on the sand having completed the opening five rounds of the AMA Supercross Championship with astonishing success.

The second race wasn't so close as Tonus got a bad start, handing the advantage, and inevitably the race, to Osborne who's prowess over the whoops sections and ability to muscle the bike through the rough sand saw him uncatchable in race 2. Tonus eventually had a tumble and was forced to retire from the race with a DNF.

The final race culminated in a classic, as the two Cosworth Yamaha and Raptor Titanium frontrunners battled feverishly to gain the upper hand, regularly overtaking one another and leaving the rest of the field for dead. Tonus eventually managed to pull a slight lead in the last lap and won the final MX2 race by the smallest of margins.

There was some great racing further down the field as well as HM Plant KTM UK and Raptor Titanium's Elliot Banks-Browne secured a third and fourth place, unfortunately missing out on a podium spot due to mechanical problems. Raptor Titanium's and fellow team-mate at the Cosworth Bike It Yamaha team Mel Pocock secured a fantastic second place on the podium.

HM Plant KTM UK and Raptor Titanium's Kevin Strijbos made it all look too easy in the MX1 class, despite real challenges from Team KTM STR and Raptor Titanium rider Mattis Karro battling with him early, the experience and superb bike of Strijbos's was unbeatable on the day and Strijbos goes into round 2 with a very comfortable lead.
