DUNGEY EXTENDS POINTS LEAD AND BARCIA COMES TOP OF THE BOX AT WASHOUGAL

Perfect track and weather conditions got things off to a great start at Round 8 of the 2012 AMA Motocross Championship, with KTM Red Bull and Raptor Titanium sponsored riders Ryan Dungey qualifying fastest in the 450 class and Marvin Musquin fastest in the 250 class.

250 Lites Class

Capitalizing on his fast and furious qualifying performance was Musquin who took a storming holeshot in the first Lites moto, followed closely by the Raptor Titanium sponsored Geico Honda men Justin Barcia in second and Eli Tomac in third. Musquin managed to hold off the rampant 4-man breakaway squad at the top of the points tally in the Lites series this year and made a great job of holding off 2012 East and West Lites Supercross Champions Barcia and Tomac, as well as his KTM Red Bull team-mate Ken Roczen sitting right behind in fourth for most of the race, before the Geico men moved up to take 1st and 2nd at the chequered flag, with Musquin 3rd, Roczen 4th and fellow Geico Honda and Raptor Titanium sponsored man Wil Hahn in 5th, completing a top 5 for Raptor Titanium sponsored riders in the first race!

The second moto saw an epic clash between Geico's Justin Barcia and Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Blake Baggett, series points leader with a point to prove after a disappointing 6th in the first race for him. In third was Barcia's team-mate and fellow Raptor Titanium sponsored man Justin Bogle, with Musquin and Tomac fourth and fifth who both soon moved past Bogle to look to challenge for the race win. Baggett eventually managed to do what he does best and passed the Geico Honda man for the race win, keeping his points lead in the series, with Barcia claiming the overall win with a 1-2 on the day. Tomac passed Musquin towards the end to claim 2nd on the box and Baggett's win managed to get him 3rd step on the podium, just edging out Musquin who was overall 4th on the day, with Roczen overall 5th and Rockstar Energy Suzuki and Raptor Titanium sponsored man Blake Wharton overall 6th.

450 Motocross Class

On form man and Raptor Titanium sponsored rider Mike Alessi of the Motoconcepts Suzuki team led the charge out of the gate on the first lap of the first 450 race, with fellow Raptor Titanium man Josh Grant of Jeff Ward Kawasaki in second, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jake Weimar in third and the series leader, Raptor Titanium sponsored rider Ryan Dungey in fourth! Grant suffered a bad crash early on, losing his second place, but thankfully walked away, meaning Dungey was able to storm past Weimar and put the pressure Alessi. It looked like Alessi was done for as the rampant points leader closed him to within a second, but the Motoconcepts man held him off, racing all the way and getting a well-earned race win, with Dungey in 2nd.

Dungey didn't stumble in the second moto as he leapt out into the lead around the first corner with race one winner Mike Alessi a close second, but the KTM Red Bull and Raptor Titanium sponsored man showed why he's been so dominant this year and eased out a big lead to the chequered flag, taking yet another overall win this year and maintaining a huge points lead.
